The international conference No Plan(et) B or Paradise took place on 9 and 10 October in Utrecht. The organization of this conference was in hands of the research group Religion and Climate Change, located at Tilburg University. A wide variety of people attended the conference; scholars, teachers, and even people working in museums.
The presentations showed current research on the nexus of religious studies and climate change/climate mitigation, and adaptation. The panel discussions focussed on:
- Sacred landscapes
- Digitalizing Islamic Environmental Narratives
- Religion-Inspired Climate Skepticism
- Christian Vocabularies in Climate Change Discourses
- Earth Imagery in Times of Climate Change
My presentation builds further on my dissertation. I first explained how Natura 2000 areas in Northeast-Twente violate the relational Catholic-based worldview of the local population. Second, I suggested how nature conservation can be rooted in this worldview when we root it in how religion is lived in this region, how people talk about the landscape, and how they combine these two elements.
